EDUCATION SCAMS Many models think beyond their modeling career, and work hard at obtaining a college education. It is very important to get into an accredited college or university if you intend to earn a degree that will help you land a good job and work a good career after modeling. Most Human Resource departments at good companies will not take an unaccredited or fast-tracked (obtained in under two years) degree seriously! If you were hiring people to work for a company, would you hire a person who had a one year education at an unaccredited school or another applicant with a four year degree from a state university? Don't destroy your future with a worthless degree which cannot get you anywhere! Unaccredited courses of study are not outright scams, but the way that they are marketed makes them a scam. Most of the advertisements imply that the degrees are accredited and that the credits will transfer to state colleges and universities, which is misleading! Once you get into one of those schools, you are responsible for paying back student loans regardless of the outcome of the education received and the credibility of the degree. Most college and trade degree programs that you see advertised on television are not accredited, and credits cannot be transferred to a real college or university. To determine if one of those deals is worth checking out, call a reputable state university (such as the University of South Florida) and ask them if credits from the school that you are interested in will transfer to them. If they say no, STAY AWAY from what will be a waste of time and money. Better yet, try to get into the university, where you can be sure that your degree will be actually worth something. Scams listed here are not limited to models, and different types can be easily combined for new types of scams. If you cannot CLARIFY their intentions and VERIFY their references, go somewhere else to do business. It's professionally responsible to do so and lowers your risk. There are lots of great companies out there, like our advertisers and the companies in our resource sections, who are not scams. You owe it to your career to shop around and be selective.
