MODEL SEARCH SCAMS

Often held in large hotels and convention halls, these are "free" model searches that supposedly have industry experts in attendance and "discover" new faces. You've seen these before. A big modeling convention comes to town, usually with big television commercials announcing their arrival, and thousands of hopeful models flock to them to get "discovered by major agencies". Actually, anyone can submit themselves to agencies at next to no cost and using regular snap shots, and they will get more exposure and more consideration than at these model searches. These scams are often a marketing tool for overpriced modeling schools, and they will "discover" just about anyone, regardless of their looks or lack of looks. If there are any reputable agencies or professionals there, they are usually there on the basis of having a free vacation, and don't take anything seriously. Most of these model searches are usually a big waste of time, and a bait and switch.

Scams listed here are not limited to models, and different types can be easily combined for new types of scams. If you cannot CLARIFY their intentions and VERIFY their references, go somewhere else to do business. It's professionally responsible to do so and lowers your risk. There are lots of great companies out there, like our advertisers and the companies in our resource sections, who are not scams. You owe it to your career to shop around and be selective.
