MODEL SCOUTING SCAMS While we know of reputable photographers who scout models (you know, the ones with great portfolios and references that you can verify), the vast majority of model scouting is a scam. If someone tells you that "you have the look" and could model, hear them out, but be careful. Check out their references and their story. If you are invited to a go see with lots of other people who don't have a marketable look, and are pitched an expensive "portfolio" web site with the line "we introduce you to agencies", you need to run out the door. Any model with a $1.00 snapshot can be considered to be represented by a model agency, and if someone tries to imply that they have connections and can "introduce you" to an agency, then there is a great chance that they are running a scam. Besides, a modeling agency is known in business as a middleman, and it does not make sense to add another middleman or level of bureaucracy to the machine of your career. If you are scouted, be careful. You may have so-called "model scouts" who will tell prospective models that they will "introduce" them to agencies and that they will have better consideration because of the professional relationships that they have with the agencies. Do they really? Cam they name the contacts? Don't depend upon the "professional reputation" of a model scout who may be lying to you to get the advantage in an agency introduction. First impressions are everything. Do you really want to risk being associated with a model scout who has a bad reputation with model agencies? In reality, the best thing that you can do is to write agencies a professional cover letter of introduction, and then give them your composite card and resume. Models who do this have much more credibility than any that are "introduced" by most model scouts. We have seen some model scouts claim to be able to do model consultations for models and "teach" them what they need to know. What is the point when we have better information here at no charge? For MORE, go to MODEL SCHOOL AND MODEL CONSULTATION SCAMS by clicking HERE. By the way, if a model scout refers you to the Tampa Bay Modeling site, that is a good thing, BUT you need to verify who they are with us before you can trust them. Scams
listed here are not limited to models, and different types can be easily
combined for new types of scams. If you cannot CLARIFY their intentions
and VERIFY their references, go somewhere else to do business. It's
professionally responsible to do so and lowers your risk. There are
lots of great companies out there, like our advertisers and the companies
in our resource sections, who are not scams. You owe it to your career
to shop around and be selective. MORE ABOUT SCAM Links to relevant content on this site regarding this model scam are pending. MODEL SCAMS - SCAM TIPS - REPORT SCAM UPDATED 05/11/06
