MODEL MANAGERS AND TAMPA MODELING MANAGEMENT
Models should manage their own careers, and model and talent agencies have no business managing any model career, as it may be a conflict of interest because they also represent other models who are in competition with the model. Agencies should be used as one of many sources of potential model jobs, and professional models should work with an assortment of agencies while they manage their own careers and book much of their work on their own.
How do model manager make their money? How can they be compensated for the work and the time spent managing a model? For anyone to legally be able to obtain commission from booking models into modeling jobs, they MUST be a licensed modeling and talent agency, and If they cannot legally make money, how can they be expected to sustain their efforts? If they are licensed as a modeling and talent agency, they also cannot legally make money by doing modeling portfolios, composite cards, and other modeling career tools. see the catch-22 and the conflict of interest?
Currently, we are not aware of any model managers who are legitimate and who operate legally, especially in the Tampa Bay market. The reason is that in order to make money referring models into any job, you must be licensed as an agency, and with an agency status it would be against the law to make money from photography, portfolio, or model career tool services. If it is against the law to make money by referring models into jobs, how would a manager make money? If they can't make money, then what would be the incentive of following through on their promise to manage the career of the model?
