Portfolio Networking Sites have no real direction, professional instruction, or information that you can learn from. Most let the members do almost anything that they want, including posting bad and misguided advice. Please note that anyone can sign up for a profile on these site, often free of charge. There are no licenses required, no references, and misrepresentation runs rampant. Many of these so-called professionals offer TFP/ TFCD (free services) that are a front for a hidden motive or outright unprofessional conduct. Don’t trust any professional who does nothing but free work. Opinions are another thing. You must consider the source before giving credibility to any “professional” opinion. When just about anyone who is on the Internet can post on portfolio networking site message boards, the credibility of information found there is limited at best. Some participate with Portfolio Networking Sites, using them as a way of promoting themselves and obtaining a “professional” presence on the Internet. This is no substitute for a professional web site, and using nothing but a Portfolio Networking Profile as a “web site” does nothing for the career of any professional and can even make you look unprofessional. Misrepresentation on these sites run rampant because there is no professional accountability and no career investment is required to be involved. Something to think about: Portfolio Networking Sites are full of competitors and amateurs who believe that services should be free because of misconceptions learned on the site. Who exactly are you trying to market your business to? Scams listed here are not limited to models, and different types can be easily combined for new types of scams. If you cannot CLARIFY their intentions and VERIFY their references, go somewhere else to do business. It's professionally responsible to do so and lowers your risk. There are lots of great companies out there, like our advertisers and the companies in our resource sections, who are not scams. You owe it to your career to shop around and be selective.
